With a couple of smart ball manuevers Primitivo Duarte in the 14th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Serginho Azevedo saved Flamengo FC from getting behind. After some careless play in the Flamengo FC defense, Benito Licerio kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Serginho Azevedo. The referee showed Benito Licerio the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 41st match minute, Independiente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Benito Licerio to maneuver through the defense. During the 42nd minute of the match Benito Licerio completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Benito Licerio a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The supporters of Flamengo FC booed when Independiente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benito Licerio didn't get a good kick on the ball. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
