With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jose Manuel Sempere prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Juan Arantes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miguel Ángel Mista in the 34th minute of play. Renato Ferreira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Damian Abrego had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marquinhos Senior received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Jose Manuel Sempere came out and tried to block the shot, but Marquinhos Senior slotted it home off the left post making it 2-1 in the 40th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.
