In the 13th minute of the match, Carl-Rune Johanson tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Paulo Rosa saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Saga TF's Bjørn Mæhlum played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Francisco Rencio in the 17th minute of play. Bjørn Mæhlum showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Vítor Esteves, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. When Francisco Rencio came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Guararapes fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Francisco Rencio couldn't finish the play. In the 27th minute Basílio Galvão shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bjørn Mæhlum saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 27 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Guararapes's Basílio Galvão fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head. Bjørn Mæhlum showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Francisco Rencio in the 32nd minute of the match. Saga TF's Bjørn Mæhlum played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Amauri de Queirós in the 36th minute of play. The Guararapes fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-5. A collision led to Saga TF getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Carl Jøssang hit a great ball. After some careless play in the Saga TF defense, Basílio Galvão kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Bjørn Mæhlum. The Saga TF fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Bjørn Mæhlum should have stopped the shot. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-6.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell José Pedro Cardozo to make the kick off.
