The supporters of Velez Sarsfield booed when ₡ösᴛᴀ ᴆᴇ ₿ᴀʀᴙɪĿ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Agustín Sande didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in ₡ösᴛᴀ ᴆᴇ ₿ᴀʀᴙɪĿ's zone, Isaac Marcones stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alberto Abeita came out of the goal and Isaac Marcones tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 16th minute of the match, Abelardo Belarmo tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Uriel Raymon saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Leonides Mero hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Uriel Raymon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eleuterio Tello, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. In the 27th match minute, Velez Sarsfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Patricio Mendebal to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Velez Sarsfield getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Leonides Mero hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, ₡ösᴛᴀ ᴆᴇ ₿ᴀʀᴙɪĿ's Adrian Katia got a free kick in the 44th minute. Alberto Abeita showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Isaac Marcones, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. A collision led to ₡ösᴛᴀ ᴆᴇ ₿ᴀʀᴙɪĿ getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Adrian Katia hit a great ball. 47 minutes into the game, Isaac Marcones cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Alberto Abeita was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After the first half Velez Sarsfield were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 53rd minute of the match Tobias Romelio shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Uriel Raymon showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodrigo Cugat in the 62nd minute of play forced Velez Sarsfield's goalkeeper Uriel Raymon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to ₡ösᴛᴀ ᴆᴇ ₿ᴀʀᴙɪĿ getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Abelardo Belarmo hit a great ball. In the 69th minute, Isaac Marcones got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Patricio Mendebal hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. Uriel Raymon showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eleuterio Tello in the 91st minute of the match. The Velez Sarsfield supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Velez Sarsfield would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
