Froilan Unai made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 18th minute, Erkan Fostiropoulos ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Froilan Unai was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. The supporters of Manfredi AFC booed when Rot-Weiss-Essen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tymoteusz Terasek didn't get a good kick on the ball. 33 minutes into the match, Manfredi AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Sandu Alexa came free, but Froilan Unai reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Teodosio Fidele got his second yellow card in the match during the 34th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After 34 played minutes Manfredi AFC got a freekick which was hit by Teodosio Fidele. Froilan Unai made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fabian Krinke in the 37th minute of play. After 46 minutes of play, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Erkan Fostiropoulos made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Froilan Unai was left in no man's land by his defense there!

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Erkan Fostiropoulos to make the kick off. Nereo Abad kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. Xavi Haberer's late challenge caught a Manfredi AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Xavi Haberer helped the player get up and apologised. After 55 played minutes Rot-Weiss-Essen got a freekick which was hit by Xavi Haberer. In the 59th minute of the match, Erkan Fostiropoulos tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Froilan Unai saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 62nd match minute, Manfredi AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nereo Abad to maneuver through the defense. In the 62nd minute, Erkan Fostiropoulos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Froilan Unai made an important save on a dangerous shot by Fabian Krinke in the 64th minute. 0-5 became the score in the 68th minute when Sandu Alexa elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. In the 72nd match minute, Manfredi AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ciro Efren to maneuver through the defense. Froilan Unai didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Sandu Alexa went, in the 74th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-6 was the resulting score. With an all-out effort, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Froilan Unai threw himself towards the right post 78 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Erkan Fostiropoulos, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. If Jacinto Benitez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nereo Abad's late challenge caught a Rot-Weiss-Essen's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nereo Abad helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Manfredi AFC getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Nereo Abad hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Rot-Weiss-Essen's zone, Gregorio Tiadoro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Adam Northe came out of the goal and Gregorio Tiadoro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 86 minutes into the game, Fabian Krinke recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Froilan Unai. Fabian Krinke showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-7. Sandu Alexa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Froilan Unai made a huge save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Erkan Fostiropoulos in the 95th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Froilan Unai saved Manfredi AFC from getting behind. Rot-Weiss-Essen's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Erkan Fostiropoulos in the 96th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Manfredi AFC's goalie and right to Sandu Alexa. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Manfredi AFC's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. When the match was over Rot-Weiss-Essen could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Manfredi AFC throughout the match.
