An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicasio Vargas in the 20th minute of play forced Gremio Viana's goalkeeper João Carvalhais to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Carlos Luna might have been able to make a better finish in the 22nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Emiliano Dimo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out.
