Umberto Prado scored 1-0 in the 14th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Tony Van Der Weghen, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 18 minutes into the match, São Paulo Leste F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Herman Bormans came free, but Nilton Varela reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Frank Borges recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 30 minutes into the game, Frank Borges was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. São Paulo Leste F.C.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Bruges the free kick. Nilton Varela showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Herman Bormans in the 31st minute of the match. Wágner da Mata sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 35 minutes into the game, Frank Borges recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Tony Van Der Weghen. Frank Borges showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Umberto Prado got free with Tony Van Der Weghen in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, São Paulo Leste F.C.'s Erasmo Arce got a free kick in the 47th minute. After 49 played minutes FC Bruges got a freekick which was hit by Tony Henderickx.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Richy Wiggers stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 57th minute Umberto Prado shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tony Van Der Weghen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tony Van Der Weghen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Umberto Prado in the 67th minute of play. 68 minutes into the match, Frank Borges had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tony Van Der Weghen. FC Bruges's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Frank Borges was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-0. Umberto Prado sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 72nd match minute, FC Bruges was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antonio Eggers to maneuver through the defense. Umberto Prado struck a weak shot in the 73rd minute. The supporters of São Paulo Leste F.C. booed when FC Bruges was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Herman Bormans didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tony Van Der Weghen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Frank Borges in the 80th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in FC Bruges's zone, Frank Borges stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tony Van Der Weghen came out of the goal and Frank Borges tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 84 minutes into the match, FC Bruges's goal looked a bit too open when Frank Borges came free, but Tony Van Der Weghen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. FC Bruges's Tony Van Der Weghen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frank Borges in the 86th minute of play. São Paulo Leste F.C. walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
