FC Bruges's Tony Van Der Weghen proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to save FC Bruges from getting a goal against them. In the 20th match minute, FC Bruges was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gregorie Van Beersel to maneuver through the defense. Tony Van Der Weghen made a fantastic save in the 21st minute, when Jorge Martxot sent off a good shot on target. After 22 minutes, Jorge Martxot made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. The supporters of FC Bruges booed when Academia FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Higinio Orain didn't get a good kick on the ball. Richy Wiggers received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Ignacio Orland tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After the first half FC Bruges were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Richy Wiggers was the one to do the kick off.
