Ponte do Carro's Jorge Valério proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Ponte do Carro from getting a goal against them. The supporters of AC United booed when Ponte do Carro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. António Guerra didn't get a good kick on the ball. Roger Ekberg took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Reinaldo Calado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With 82 minutes on the clock, Cristóvão Caetano commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. One of Ponte do Carro:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of AC United:s goal. Jorge Valério had in the 84thth minute some difficulties stopping Sune Meck's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 84th match minute, Ponte do Carro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Micael Marques to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in AC United's zone, Reinaldo Calado stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Roger Ekberg came out of the goal and Reinaldo Calado tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sune Pilberg during the 100th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Sune Pilberg hit a great freekick 100 minutes into the match. Ponte do Carro's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
