When Máximo Fernández fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Celestiales's protests and gave Máximo Fernández a yellow card for diving instead. Máximo Fernández kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. The supporters of Atlético Nacional booed when Celestiales was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Narciso Bladi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wilfredo Berriotxoa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Anastasio Lixandro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Atlético Nacional's zone, Máximo Fernández stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wilfredo Berriotxoa came out of the goal and Máximo Fernández tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Raul Vargas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wilfredo Berriotxoa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Vicente Sasoin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Evaristo Ubarna took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Baltasar Guillerme, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Anastasio Lixandro scored 2-0 in the 56th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Wilfredo Berriotxoa, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. A collision led to Celestiales getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Isidoro Lop hit a great ball. Vicente Sasoin's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Evaristo Ubarna read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. 79 minutes had been played when some careless play by Celestiales's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Celestino Rudolfo was slow to take the kick. During this time Atlético Nacional's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Celestino Rudolfo almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Celestiales's Evaristo Ubarna did a great save. In the 95th minute, Atlético Nacional's Vicente Sasoin ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Evaristo Ubarna. Evaristo Ubarna yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. Atlético Nacional's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Celestiales had won, even though Atlético Nacional had held more of the ball.
