The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. György Kósa who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 3rdth minute tested the skills of Carlos Miguel when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Maicon Capitão charged in rather forcefully in the 5th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Maicon Capitão the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 5th match minute, GRÊMIO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maicon Capitão to maneuver through the defense. In the 8th minute Arí Terra shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Saul Osoitz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 11th minute, György Kósa managed to get in a good position for a shot. LegionArgentina's supporters rose to their feet, but György Kósa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlos Miguel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 14th minute LegionArgentina were awarded a corner. Ermegildo Jaunti went to the cornerflag to take it. Carlos Miguel made an important save on a dangerous shot by György Kósa in the 20th minute. Saul Osoitz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roberto Fontes, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. György Kósa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Carlos Miguel made a huge save. LegionArgentina's Saul Osoitz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Geovanni Maia in the 34th minute of play. Arnaldo Gabino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. György Kósa had several of the GRÊMIO's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 45 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-1 score and a disappointed Carlos Miguel as he didn't even see the shot coming. Arnaldo Gabino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Miguel having to interfere.

LegionArgentina's Saul Osoitz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roberto Fontes in the 53rd minute of play. 57 minutes into the match, LegionArgentina's goal looked a bit too open when Elpidio Gai came free, but Saul Osoitz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marcos Herrera hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. LegionArgentina's Gustaw Wicherek got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Carlos Miguel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from György Kósa, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. In the 68th minute of the match LegionArgentina got a corner. GRÊMIO's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ermegildo Jaunti ran over to the corner to take the kick. Rigoberto Lucero made a great header on LegionArgentina's corner, it was just that GRÊMIO's Carlos Miguel managed to reach the ball for a save. Carlos Miguel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from György Kósa, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. Carlos Miguel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Arnaldo Gabino in the 73rd minute of the match. But to his dismay, Gustaw Wicherek quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. 81 minutes into the game, Rigoberto Lucero was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. LegionArgentina's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave GRÊMIO the free kick. In the 82nd minute, Rigoberto Lucero hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A hard shot 84 in the game by Roberto Fontes from a close distance when the talented Saul Osoitz managed to make a qualified save. LegionArgentina's players were relieved. After 85 minutes, György Kósa made it 3-1 with a short kick to the right side. GRÊMIO's Carlos Miguel tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 90 minutes into the game, Generoso Gau was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. LegionArgentina's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave GRÊMIO the free kick.
