Tomasz Kaznocha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcelo Gröhe having to interfere. In the 12th minute of the match Aris Salonicco FC got a corner. Independente FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Emilio Taranto ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 17th match minute, Aris Salonicco FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Enrico Cera to maneuver through the defense. 19 minutes into the match, Independente FC's goal looked a bit too open when Giampaolo Pazzini came free, but Marcelo Gröhe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 30 minutes into the match, Aris Salonicco FC's goalkeeper Fulvio Campese had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fernando Lucas. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nilson Duarte got free with Fulvio Campese in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 34 minutes of play, Independente FC's Raí Prestes made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fulvio Campese was left in no man's land by his defense there! 38 minutes had been played when some careless play by Aris Salonicco FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Nilson Duarte was slow to take the kick. During this time Independente FC's players had a chance to rest. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Independente FC's goalkeeper Marcelo Gröhe, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Hudson Toscano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. The supporters of Aris Salonicco FC booed when Independente FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Senon Abravanel didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Independente FC's Marcelo Gröhe got control of the ball when Giampaolo Pazzini tried to sneak it across the goal line. The Independente FC manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Aris Salonicco FC to win.
