Dave Pierucci recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 3rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Brugge United's Aldo Candal proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 5th minute of the match, managed to save Brugge United from getting a goal against them. Carter Pallini kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. 11 minutes into the match, Pacho Carabajal notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of S.S.C. NAPOLI's Edoardo Proietti. Edoardo Proietti was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Jorge Isemborgh hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. Dave Pierucci could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but Aldo Candal made a huge save. S.S.C. NAPOLI's Edoardo Proietti played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Henk De Martelaere in the 20th minute of play. After 25 minutes of play, S.S.C. NAPOLI's Dave Pierucci made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Aldo Candal was left in no man's land by his defense there! Corrado Silvestre hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. Edoardo Proietti didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Raoul Lambert went, in the 33rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. Raoul Lambert sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 44th minute Henk De Martelaere shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edoardo Proietti saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dave Pierucci fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aldo Candal having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

S.S.C. NAPOLI's Corrado Silvestre managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Jorge Isemborgh in the 51 minute of the game. Dave Pierucci might have been able to make a better finish in the 57th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Aldo Candal. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dave Pierucci ran back to his position shaking his head. Edoardo Proietti made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pacho Carabajal in the 62nd minute. After 80 played minutes S.S.C. NAPOLI got a freekick which was hit by Dave Pierucci. Brugge United's Aldo Candal played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Corrado Silvestre in the 82nd minute of play. Raoul Lambert might have been able to make a better finish in the 85th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Edoardo Proietti. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. In the 87th minute Henk De Martelaere shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edoardo Proietti saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Brugge United's Henk De Martelaere slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Edoardo Proietti. That made the score 1-3 after 89 minutes of play. After 93 minutes, Jakub Moder mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the S.S.C. NAPOLI and the Brugge United players grew even worse after the yellow card. Jakub Moder hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. Edoardo Proietti came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by Brugge United's Raoul Lambert. But to his dismay, Raoul Lambert quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-4. Brugge United's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
