The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the game, José Vítor Lara cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Pepe Santoro was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Narciso Vergaray in the 7th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Abelardo Diniz saved Tamboril from getting behind. If Higinio Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 9 minutes into the game, Ulisses Antunes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Tamboril's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB the free kick. After a rather tough play, Tamboril's Ulisses Antunes got a free kick in the 9th minute. In the 15th match minute, INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alejo Eleder to maneuver through the defense. Tamboril's Abelardo Diniz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Narciso Vergaray in the 19th minute of play. After having played for 26 minutes, Arsenio Erico managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB's supporters crossed their fingers, but Arsenio Erico was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The attack was good, but when Valdomiro Garcia in the 28th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. After having played for 29 minutes, José Vítor Lara managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tamboril's supporters crossed their fingers, but José Vítor Lara was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Valdomiro Garcia in the 42nd minute of play forced INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB's goalkeeper Pepe Santoro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Alejo Eleder fell near the penalty area in the 43rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB's protests and gave Alejo Eleder a yellow card for diving instead. In the 43rd minute, Alejo Eleder hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 44 minutes into the match, Tamboril's José Vítor Lara broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. After the first half Tamboril were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Narciso Vergaray made a kick off. In the 53rd minute, José Vítor Lara got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 54 played minutes Tamboril got a freekick which was hit by Wanderson Ceresso. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Narciso Vergaray in the 57th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Abelardo Diniz saved Tamboril from getting behind. When Narciso Vergaray fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB's protests and gave Narciso Vergaray a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Narciso Vergaray hit a great ball. Pepe Santoro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Vítor Lara in the 62nd minute of play. 63 minutes into the game, Tamboril's Valdomiro Garcia nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Pepe Santoro made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. With a little luck, INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB's Pepe Santoro got control of the ball when Pedro Augusto Barbosa tried to sneak it across the goal line. If José Vítor Lara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 72 minutes into the match, Tamboril's José Vítor Lara sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Pepe Santoro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Tamboril's Ulisses Antunes got a good chance for a goal in the 98th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tamboril's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
