The supporters of Grêmio FBPA booed when O rey Iván was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Israel Cesario didn't get a good kick on the ball. Horacio Txaran kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. Augusto Burni sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. Ramiro Romelio made a fantastic save in the 24th minute, when Dário Paraibano sent off a good shot on target. 28 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's goal looked a bit too open when Augusto Burni came free, but Rui Varela reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 29th minute O rey Iván were awarded a corner. Horacio Txaran went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Horacio Txaran got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Rui Varela quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. A collision led to Grêmio FBPA getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Osvaldo Santana hit a great ball. In the 38th minute, Osvaldo Santana hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 45th minute Augusto Burni shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rui Varela saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 46th match minute, O rey Iván was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Isaac Txartiko to maneuver through the defense. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Celso Mendes was the one to do the kick off. Augusto Burni sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Israel Cesario hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Grêmio FBPA's Rui Varela got control of the ball when Augusto Burni tried to sneak it across the goal line. Grêmio FBPA's Wilian Alves suffered a fractured collar bone after 72 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Benito Dei kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. Ramiro Romelio came out of the goal and Filipe Neto tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
