In the 37th minute Cipriano Olivar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rui Varela saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Evaristo Gaufred charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Evaristo Gaufred the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Hugo Txeru's late challenge caught a Grêmio FBPA's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hugo Txeru helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Machine Gun Kelly getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Hugo Txeru hit a great ball. When Machine Gun Kelly's Cipriano Olivar in the 58th minute got a chance for a shot 58th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Grêmio FBPA's Rui Varela played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cipriano Olivar in the 87th minute of play. The Grêmio FBPA players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Machine Gun Kelly from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
