MelissaMel were furious when Claudinho Esteves was red carded, 9 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. 9 minutes into the game, one of MelissaMel:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. MelissaMel:s Carlinhos Pinho showed great skill when he stopped Reinaldo Penha:s penalty. When Mexilhão F. C.'s Felippe Mineiro in the 13th minute got a chance for a shot 13th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye MelissaMel's goalie prevented a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Reinaldo Penha in the 22nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Carlinhos Pinho saved MelissaMel from getting behind. When Felippe Mineiro fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Mexilhão F. C.'s protests and gave Felippe Mineiro a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of MelissaMel booed when Mexilhão F. C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felippe Mineiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. Reinaldo Penha blasted a shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Carlinhos Pinho having to make a save. Reinaldo Penha received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Carlinhos Pinho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Valério de Azevedo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcelinho Matorin having to interfere. MelissaMel's Anderson Fonseca managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Umberto Negri in the 44 minute of the game. MelissaMel's attentive Augusto Valery managed to snatch the ball when Reinaldo Penha made a throw-in in the 45th minute of the game. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Celso Valadares stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Felippe Mineiro's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Carlinhos Pinho was relentless in the 52nd minute of the game. After taking down the ball on Mexilhão F. C.'s corner Nelsinho Dantas fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Carlinhos Pinho quite easily take care of the ball. The throw-in from Umberto Negri in the 73rd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by MelissaMel's Augusto Valery. If Augusto Valery had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Marcelinho Matorin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Augusto Valery in the 75th minute of play. Carlinhos Pinho didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 78th minute, which inside left pole to 1-2. In the 84th minute, Felippe Mineiro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nelsinho Dantas kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. MelissaMel's Anderson Fonseca managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Umberto Negri in the 90 minute of the game. After having played for 94 minutes, Felippe Mineiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mexilhão F. C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Felippe Mineiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 96 minutes into the match, MelissaMel's goalkeeper Carlinhos Pinho had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Reinaldo Penha. The MelissaMel manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Mexilhão F. C. to win.
