When Serafino Gutierrez fell near the penalty area in the 3rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Boulogne F.C.'s protests and gave Serafino Gutierrez a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Rot-Weiss-Essen booed when Boulogne F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Serafino Gutierrez didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Boulogne F.C.'s Melquiades Tabor got a free kick in the 7th minute. Boulogne F.C.'s Teodosio Macerio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maurizio Brink in the 26th minute of play. In the 27th minute Björn Mokros shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Teodosio Macerio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Teodosio Macerio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sandu Alexa in the 28th minute of the match. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Fernando Joey stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Uwe Ziege took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Victorino Garci, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Erkan Fostiropoulos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 57th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Teodosio Macerio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Björn Mokros in the 59th minute of the match. Boulogne F.C.'s Teodosio Macerio proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 61st minute of the match, managed to save Boulogne F.C. from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Boulogne F.C.'s Teodosio Macerio got control of the ball when Björn Mokros tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 63rd minute, Fabio Chumo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Teodosio Macerio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Björn Mokros in the 66th minute of play. Through an outstanding action, after 73 minutes, Teodosio Macerio successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After some fancy dribbling in the 81st minute, Fernando Joey managed to get in a good position for a shot. Boulogne F.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Fernando Joey was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Uwe Ziege breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Teodosio Macerio stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Erkan Fostiropoulos's shot from short distance in the 82nd minute. Boulogne F.C.'s defense didn't have a chance, in the 89th minute, when Maurizio Brink scored to the left of an out of position Teodosio Macerio, making the score, 0-7. The supporters of Boulogne F.C. booed when Rot-Weiss-Essen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sandu Alexa didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Rot-Weiss-Essen eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
