After 5 played minutes Nils Liedholm IF got a freekick which was hit by Birger Kleen. The audience thought a goal was coming when Zé Roberto Fonseca got free with Ove Hake in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 14th minute, Zé Roberto Fonseca ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ove Hake was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Jörgen Bjurström struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Tostão Varela didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Nils Liedholm IF. The crowd rose to their feet as Mochila FC's Zé Roberto Fonseca slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ove Hake. That made the score 2-0 after 23 minutes of play. Mochila FC's Tostão Varela played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jörgen Bjurström in the 26th minute of play. After 32 minutes, Geovanni da Silva mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mochila FC and the Nils Liedholm IF players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 32 played minutes Mochila FC got a freekick which was hit by Geovanni da Silva. Jörgen Bjurström received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Tostão Varela tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A long shot from Adelino Castro in the 38th minute of play was well struck, but Ove Hake made a really good save at the right post. With an all-out effort, Mochila FC's Ove Hake threw himself towards the right post 48 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Zé Roberto Fonseca, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Jörgen Bjurström fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tostão Varela having to interfere. A collision led to Mochila FC getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Geovanni da Silva hit a great ball. Nils Liedholm IF's Ove Hake played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zé Roberto Fonseca in the 66th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Nils Liedholm IF's Karl-Oskar Fridlund got a free kick in the 73rd minute. In the 74th minute, Zé Roberto Fonseca got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Mochila FC's zone, Jörgen Bjurström stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tostão Varela came out of the goal and Jörgen Bjurström tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 78 minutes into the game, Östen Olsson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Nils Liedholm IF's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mochila FC the free kick. In the 79th match minute, Nils Liedholm IF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Östen Olsson to maneuver through the defense. Zé Roberto Fonseca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Ove Hake tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
