Spectators: 7695 (Terracing: 5772, Seating: 1770, VIP seats: 153) Joel Servando started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. 6 minutes into the match, Martin Hedlund notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Celta de Virgos's Herminio Pirmin. Herminio Pirmin was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Herminio Pirmin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Karl-Erik Sörman in the 9th minute of play. 13 minutes into the match, Celta de Virgos's goal looked a bit too open when Jerry Fristedt came free, but Herminio Pirmin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Joel Servando's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Olle Tunander read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 15th minute of play. After a rather tough play, VfL Wolfsburg's Jerry Fristedt got a free kick in the 18th minute. The supporters of VfL Wolfsburg booed when Celta de Virgos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bernabe Estavan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Herminio Pirmin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jerry Fristedt in the 22nd minute of play. In the 23rd minute, Patrick Albom ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Herminio Pirmin was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Bernabe Estavan hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. Celta de Virgos's Herminio Pirmin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Patrick Albom in the 32nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Celta de Virgos's Besart Elano got a free kick in the 33rd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Jerry Fristedt managed to get in a good position for a shot. VfL Wolfsburg's supporters rose to their feet, but Jerry Fristedt was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Herminio Pirmin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 42 played minutes Celta de Virgos got a freekick which was hit by Bernabe Estavan. After 47 minutes of play, VfL Wolfsburg's Patrick Albom made it 2-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Herminio Pirmin was left in no man's land by his defense there!

The wind increased when Alfons Delin made the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, VfL Wolfsburg's Kim Torstensson got a free kick in the 54th minute. Herminio Pirmin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Karl-Erik Sörman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, Celta de Virgos's Herminio Pirmin got control of the ball when Patrick Albom tried to sneak it across the goal line. Celta de Virgos's Ernesto Iraitz was substituted for Joel Servando. After 65 played minutes Celta de Virgos got a freekick which was hit by Besart Elano. After having played for 69 minutes, Patrick Albom managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. VfL Wolfsburg's supporters crossed their fingers, but Patrick Albom was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 75 minutes in the game Carlos Valderrama did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Jerry Fristedt. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfons Delin in the 76th minute of play forced Celta de Virgos's goalkeeper Herminio Pirmin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Genaro Etxepare hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. The supporters of Celta de Virgos booed when VfL Wolfsburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Valderrama didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Celta de Virgos's zone, Jerry Fristedt stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Herminio Pirmin came out of the goal and Jerry Fristedt tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
