When Dante Iratze fell near the penalty area in the 2nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. In the 20th minute Agnaldo Sampaio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gil Ceni saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 33 minutes into the match, CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ's goalkeeper Luiz Mello had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ími Friðbertsson. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ími Friðbertsson got free with Luiz Mello in the 43rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Luiz Mello was out of position in the 47 minute of play, and Ími Friðbertsson capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Ími Friðbertsson really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Yngve Kaldestad's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luiz Mello read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 92nd minute of play. 93 minutes into the game, Ími Friðbertsson cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-0. Luiz Mello was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Luiz Mello showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ími Friðbertsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 97th minute. CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
