Romeo Pedroso made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edson Mendes in the 3rd minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Antônio Carlos Valadares got free with Romeo Pedroso in the 6th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Olivedos's Zézinho Trevisan got a free kick in the 7th minute. Ovidio Luken kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Deivid Cavalcante got free with Romeo Pedroso in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ovidio Luken scored 0-2 in the 13th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Víktor Mineiro, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Bonifacio Valerio kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. Deivid Cavalcante succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-2 in the 21st playminute. Durval Simões scored 2-2 in the 29th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Romeo Pedroso, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 35th minute Durval Simões shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Romeo Pedroso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 39 played minutes Olivedos got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Fabiano Dias. After some fancy dribbling in the 42nd minute, Lorenzo Aimar managed to get in a good position for a shot. Club Universidad Nacional's supporters rose to their feet, but Lorenzo Aimar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Víktor Mineiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Romeo Pedroso didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Deivid Cavalcante went, in the 51st minute, to the upper right corner, 3-2 was the resulting score. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gualterio Pio during the 55th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 55 played minutes Club Universidad Nacional got a freekick which was hit by Gualterio Pio. Víktor Mineiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ovidio Luken in the 59th minute of play. Olivedos's Víktor Mineiro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fabio Artal in the 60th minute of play. Lorenzo Aimar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Romeo Pedroso didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Deivid Cavalcante went, in the 67th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-2 was the resulting score. An unexpectedly hard shot by Deivid Cavalcante in the 73rd minute of play forced Club Universidad Nacional's goalkeeper Romeo Pedroso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Club Universidad Nacional's Romeo Pedroso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Deivid Cavalcante in the 78th minute of play. If Edson Mendes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Club Universidad Nacional's goalie and right to Antônio Carlos Valadares. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Club Universidad Nacional's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Edson Mendes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Romeo Pedroso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 92nd minute, Teodosio Sendoa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Club Universidad Nacional's zone, Edson Mendes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Romeo Pedroso came out of the goal and Edson Mendes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 95 minutes into the match, Olivedos's Durval Simões sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Romeo Pedroso narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
