The supporters of New England Minas booed when Cruzeiro Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wilson Piazza didn't get a good kick on the ball. Arthur Bufi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mete Ferro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd rose to their feet as Chico de Brito kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Segundo Gol. That made the score 2-0 in the 28 minute of play. When Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Gwidon Cwojdak in the 32nd minute got a chance for a shot 32nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Gualter Meirelles's late challenge caught a New England Minas's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gualter Meirelles helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Cruzeiro Esporte Clube getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Gualter Meirelles hit a great ball. Diogo Yurin missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 48 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Arthur Bufi right hand side. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Chico de Brito was the one to do the kick off.
