The referee showed Jochen Diericx the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Brugge United getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. After 13 minutes of play, Martin Palermo F.C.'s Sebastián Izquierdo made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. The coaching staff of Martin Palermo F.C. protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Segundo Peyo had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 94th minute of the game. One of Martin Palermo F.C.:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Brugge United:s goal. Martin Palermo F.C. were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Brugge United for a fine match.
