FC Nordsjælland's Henning Sæmer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tristram Ellerton in the 5th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tristram Ellerton in the 7th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Henning Sæmer prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 9th minute Fausto Nazzaro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Henning Sæmer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 12 minutes, Tristram Ellerton mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club Atlético de Newell and the FC Nordsjælland players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 12th match minute, Club Atlético de Newell was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tristram Ellerton to maneuver through the defense. Dimitar Berbatov hit a great ball. Henning Sæmer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kasey Gobey in the 21st minute of the match. Henning Sæmer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Johnny Burns, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Club Atlético de Newell's Greg Bastow got a free kick in the 24th minute. Benjamin Nygren sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 31st minute, Benjamin Nygren got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Henning Sæmer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tristram Ellerton, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Henning Sæmer was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After the first half Club Atlético de Newell were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Benjamin Nygren to make the kick off. The audience was convinced that Dimitar Berbatov's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Matthieu Abelard was relentless in the 69th minute of the game. In the 70th minute FC Nordsjælland were awarded a corner. Eberhardt Sarbak kicked well hit freekick during the 98th minute of the match. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Club Atlético de Newell walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
