Harris Theisens kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. In the 33rd minute Danilo Markel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zé Pedro Valadares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ágætis Byrjun's goalkeeper Zé Pedro Valadares, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 36th minute of the match Vänge IF got a corner. Ágætis Byrjun's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Dirk Reitsma might have been able to make a better finish in the 39th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ciriaco Hernando. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dirk Reitsma ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dirk Reitsma in the 39th minute of play forced Vänge IF's goalkeeper Ciriaco Hernando to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mauro Otsoa scored 0-2 in the 40th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Zé Pedro Valadares, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 45th minute, Han van Asten hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mathias Huiting sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Zé Pedro Valadares made a fantastic save in the 77th minute, when Bruno Giordani sent off a good shot on target. Ciriaco Hernando showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dirk Reitsma, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute.
