When Mauro Mattos came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the Grêmio Prudente fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mauro Mattos couldn't finish the play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Deivid Prestes in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bernardinho Jacinto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Bernardinho Jacinto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Deivid Prestes in the 23rd minute of the match. Serginho da Silva's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bernardinho Jacinto read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 26th minute of play. In the 26th match minute, Goiás Esporte Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Valdomiro Ribeiro to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 33 minutes, Mauro Mattos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grêmio Prudente's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mauro Mattos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Manuel Domingues charged in rather forcefully in the 37th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Manuel Domingues the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Goiás Esporte Clube's Manuel Domingues got a free kick in the 38th minute. Serginho da Silva sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 42 minutes into the match, Goiás Esporte Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Mauro Mattos came free, but Bernardinho Jacinto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Grêmio Prudente's defense didn't have a chance, in the 46th minute, when Sandrinho Vides scored to the left of an out of position Dedé Zanette, making the score, 1-0. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Aníbal Mattos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Valdomiro Ribeiro hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. When Mauro Mattos came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Grêmio Prudente fans jumped to their feet. Mauro Mattos was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 59th minute. Grêmio Prudente's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. In the 62nd minute, Deivid Prestes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 64 minutes of play, Grêmio Prudente's Deivid Prestes made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Bernardinho Jacinto was left in no man's land by his defense there! Mauro Mattos scored 1-2 in the 68th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Bernardinho Jacinto, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 75 minutes, Mauro Mattos made it 1-3 with a short kick to the right side. Goiás Esporte Clube's Bernardinho Jacinto tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot.
