Robustiano Clementi hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arnoldo Ubarna in the 4th minute of play forced Quitilipi's goalkeeper Guaberto Cebo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Urbano Nuñez succeeded in the game's 8th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-0. In the 14th minute of the match Teodoro Niva shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Guaberto Cebo showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Quitilipi's Guaberto Cebo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arnoldo Ubarna in the 16th minute of play. Angelino Pelagius fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Guaberto Cebo having to interfere. The supporters of Quitilipi booed when Sporting de Gijón was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Primitivo Arias didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Sporting de Gijón's zone, Robustiano Clementi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ariel Urbasa came out of the goal and Robustiano Clementi tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Quitilipi's Guaberto Cebo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arnoldo Ubarna in the 25th minute of play. Guaberto Cebo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Casimiro Galindo in the 30th minute of play. Guaberto Cebo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arnoldo Ubarna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Arnoldo Ubarna scored 1-1 in the 35th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Guaberto Cebo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 43rd minute of the match, Urbano Nuñez tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Ariel Urbasa saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Guaberto Cebo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Arnoldo Ubarna's shot from short distance in the 46th minute.

Ariel Urbasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Federico Insúa, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robustiano Clementi in the 55th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Ariel Urbasa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 56 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Arnoldo Ubarna. The audience was convinced that Arnoldo Ubarna's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Guaberto Cebo was relentless in the 60th minute of the game. Arnoldo Ubarna did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-3 to the left of a surprised Guaberto Cebo 74 minutes into the match. Arnoldo Ubarna in the 77thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Guaberto Cebo, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. The referee gave Quitilipi a penalty, 79 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Urbano Nuñez, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Sporting de Gijón's Ariel Urbasa. 2-3. Quitilipi's Guaberto Cebo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save Quitilipi from getting a goal against them. After 86 played minutes Quitilipi got a freekick which was hit by Jonatan Berdaitz. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Arnoldo Ubarna managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sporting de Gijón's supporters rose to their feet, but Arnoldo Ubarna was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Guaberto Cebo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 91st minute the ball was on its way in behind Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Ariel Urbasa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 97 minutes into the match, Quitilipi's goalkeeper Guaberto Cebo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Casimiro Galindo. In the 98th minute, one of Quitilipi:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Quitilipi. The goalkeeper, Guaberto Cebo, was totally fooled by Sporting de Gijón's Arnoldo Ubarna, who 99 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. When the final whistle sounded Sporting de Gijón left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Quitilipi.
