Spectators: 7587 (Terracing: 5691, Seating: 1745, VIP seats: 151) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Jaizki Lacorte took the kick off in the first half of the match. A hard shot 4 in the game by Jaizki Lacorte from a close distance when the talented Constantino Manny managed to make a qualified save. Vélez Juniors's players were relieved. Virgilio Marcilla showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rogelio Madeo, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Curcio Amer during the 11th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 11 played minutes PERSPOLIS got a freekick which was hit by Curcio Amer. Fidel Pietro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Fidel Pietro might have been able to make a better finish in the 14th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Virgilio Marcilla. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Fidel Pietro ran back to his position shaking his head. Constantino Manny made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jaizki Lacorte in the 16th minute. Rogelio Madeo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Virgilio Marcilla tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Constantino Manny made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Jaizki Lacorte sent off a good shot on target. When Vélez Juniors's Rogelio Madeo in the 27th minute got a chance for a shot 27th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye PERSPOLIS's goalie prevented a goal. 30 minutes into the match, Fidel Pietro had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Virgilio Marcilla. PERSPOLIS's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Fidel Pietro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After 42 played minutes Vélez Juniors got a freekick which was hit by Florentino Gaspard. An unexpectedly hard shot by Curcio Amer in the 43rd minute of play forced Vélez Juniors's goalkeeper Constantino Manny to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Vélez Juniors's Constantino Manny got control of the ball when Jaizki Lacorte tried to sneak it across the goal line. Emilio Serafo charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Emilio Serafo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Vélez Juniors getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Emilio Serafo hit a great ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After having played for 52 minutes, Fidel Pietro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vélez Juniors's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fidel Pietro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 54th minute of the match, Fidel Pietro got a very nice opportunity to score, but Virgilio Marcilla was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After a defensive mix-up in PERSPOLIS's zone, Damaso Playo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Virgilio Marcilla came out of the goal and Damaso Playo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Virgilio Marcilla showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rogelio Madeo, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. PERSPOLIS's Virgilio Marcilla played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fidel Pietro in the 65th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Emilio Serafo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Virgilio Marcilla was relentless in the 72nd minute of the game. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Xuaco Otero in the 80th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Constantino Manny saved Vélez Juniors from getting behind. If Fidel Pietro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 83 minutes into the game, Maurino Acedo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. PERSPOLIS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Vélez Juniors the free kick. After a rather tough play, PERSPOLIS's Maurino Acedo got a free kick in the 83rd minute. After 89 played minutes PERSPOLIS got a freekick which was hit by Jaizki Lacorte. Rogelio Madeo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Rogelio Madeo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Virgilio Marcilla having to make a save.
