When Horaţiu Manafu fell near the penalty area in the 5th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Progresul Pitesti's protests and gave Horaţiu Manafu a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Progresul Pitesti's Horaţiu Manafu got a free kick in the 5th minute. Karl-Axel Gustavsson hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. Progresul Pitesti were awarded a corner in the 9th minute after MaLe FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ion Ţeica took the corner. The corner led Progresul Pitesti's Ion Ţeica to fire away a dangerous shot which Arne Blomqvist despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. If Dragoş Oloieru had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 14th minute, MaLe FC's Jan-Olof Duset ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Victor Ciociu. Victor Ciociu yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. 21 minutes into the match, Dragoş Oloieru had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Arne Blomqvist. MaLe FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Dragoş Oloieru was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dragoş Oloieru in the 24th minute of play forced MaLe FC's goalkeeper Arne Blomqvist to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 24 minutes into the game, Alfred Anundsson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. MaLe FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Progresul Pitesti the free kick. In the 24th match minute, MaLe FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alfred Anundsson to maneuver through the defense. Arne Blomqvist showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Horaţiu Manafu in the 29th minute of the match. If Ingemar Larsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Arne Blomqvist came out of the goal in the 41st minute to try and stop a shot by Progresul Pitesti's Horaţiu Manafu. But to his dismay, Horaţiu Manafu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. Arne Blomqvist came out of the goal in the 45th minute to try and stop a shot by Progresul Pitesti's Dragoş Oloieru. But to his dismay, Dragoş Oloieru quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-4. Disappointed in the 1-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ingemar Larsson to make the kick off. George Buteanu came free with the goalkeeper in the 55th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Arne Blomqvist could save by the left post. George Buteanu succeeded in the game's 57th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-5. The supporters of Progresul Pitesti booed when MaLe FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anton Bern didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ion Ţeica recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 61st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Alfred Anundsson got his second yellow card in the match during the 62nd minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After a rather tough play, MaLe FC's Alfred Anundsson got a free kick in the 63rd minute. George Buteanu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 64th minute of the match, but Arne Blomqvist made a huge save. 65 minutes into the game, Jan-Olof Duset cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-5. Victor Ciociu was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Arne Blomqvist made a fantastic save in the 69th minute, when George Buteanu sent off a good shot on target. Arne Blomqvist took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Horaţiu Manafu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. MaLe FC's Arne Blomqvist proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 73rd minute of the match, managed to save MaLe FC from getting a goal against them. In the 74th match minute, MaLe FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ivar Ekgren to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 78 minutes, Ingemar Larsson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. MaLe FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ingemar Larsson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A sloppy throw-in by Joakim Biörkman in the 81st minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Progresul Pitesti's Ion Ţeica. If Jan-Olof Duset had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 90 minutes into the match, MaLe FC's goal looked a bit too open when Horaţiu Manafu came free, but Arne Blomqvist reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ingemar Larsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Victor Ciociu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
