IFK Stockholm's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 38 minutes into the game, Madison's Humberto Eliu nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jan-Ove Vesterberg made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. A collision led to Madison getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Modesto Lalla hit a great ball. Jan-Ove Vesterberg showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Humberto Eliu in the 46th minute of the match. Aristides Lorencio blasted a shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jan-Ove Vesterberg having to make a save. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Humberto Eliu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Jan-Ove Vesterberg made a huge save. Cristian Remicio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jan-Ove Vesterberg having to interfere. If Humberto Eliu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
