The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, Ciccio Ruggieri notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of MK Investments's Christijan Eringa. Christijan Eringa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Ger Rodenberg was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 9th minute. MK Investments's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Donato Madonna showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Evert de Jaeger, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. When Evert de Jaeger fell near the penalty area in the 15th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored MK Investments's protests and gave Evert de Jaeger a yellow card for diving instead. In the 15th match minute, MK Investments was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Evert de Jaeger to maneuver through the defense. In the 18th minute Fabio Cavaliere shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Christijan Eringa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Christijan Eringa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fabio Cavaliere, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Ernesto Margoni came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Kroton F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ernesto Margoni couldn't finish the play. 26 minutes into the match, MK Investments's goal looked a bit too open when Dave Lemma came free, but Christijan Eringa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Andreas Brandsma received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Donato Madonna tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in MK Investments's zone, Dave Lemma stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Christijan Eringa came out of the goal and Dave Lemma tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some careless play in the MK Investments defense, Dave Lemma kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Christijan Eringa. The MK Investments fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Christijan Eringa should have stopped the shot. Kroton F.C.'s Donato Madonna played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Evert de Jaeger in the 38th minute of play. Donato Madonna showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Peter Staal in the 39th minute of the match. After 41 played minutes Kroton F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Dave Lemma. 43 minutes into the match, Ciccio Ruggieri had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Christijan Eringa. MK Investments's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ciccio Ruggieri was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. MK Investments's Peter Staal got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Simon Beerthuis was the one to do the kick off. 58 minutes into the match, Peter Staal had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Donato Madonna. Kroton F.C.'s manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Peter Staal was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. Donato Madonna showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Simon Beerthuis, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. In the 67th minute the ball was on its way in behind MK Investments's goalkeeper Christijan Eringa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fabio Cavaliere got free with Christijan Eringa in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 72nd match minute, Kroton F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Comunardo Della Francesca to maneuver through the defense. After 74 minutes of play, MK Investments's Peter Staal made it 2-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Donato Madonna was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 79th minute, Ciccio Ruggieri sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and MK Investments's Christijan Eringa didn't even have to move. Christijan Eringa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ciccio Ruggieri in the 82nd minute of play. 84 minutes into the game, MK Investments's Peter Staal nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Donato Madonna made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-3. 91 minutes into the match, Kroton F.C.'s Dave Lemma sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Christijan Eringa narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
