Brasilino's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave RIVER the free kick. After 16 played minutes Brasilino got a freekick which was hit by Ediberto Martins. Humberto Xavier didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nicasio Mendebal went, in the 19th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. The supporters of Brasilino booed when RIVER was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gerardo Ixaka didn't get a good kick on the ball. 25 minutes into the match, Brasilino's goal looked a bit too open when Eustacio Nevada came free, but Humberto Xavier reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 29 minutes, Hílton da Silveira mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Brasilino and the RIVER players grew even worse after the yellow card. Gerardo Ixaka took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 43rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Humberto Xavier. Brasilino's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Humberto Xavier took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eustacio Nevada, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Aírton Nóbrega stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Gerardo Ixaka was shown his second yellow card after 51 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Gerardo Ixaka hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. In the 52nd minute of the match Aírton Nóbrega shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Narciso Jerrald showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Brasilino's Humberto Xavier proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save Brasilino from getting a goal against them. Alvaro Hernando could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 63rd minute of the match, but Humberto Xavier made a huge save. In the 64th minute Aírton Nóbrega shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Narciso Jerrald saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Narciso Jerrald showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aírton Nóbrega, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. Anselmo Esdras recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 67th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aírton Nóbrega in the 77th minute of play forced RIVER's goalkeeper Narciso Jerrald to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to RIVER getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Alvaro Hernando hit a great ball. Humberto Xavier made a fantastic save in the 79th minute, when Nicasio Mendebal sent off a good shot on target. Carlos Eduardo Maranhense hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. The long shot by Candido Opilano in the 81st minute really tested Humberto Xavier's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Anselmo Esdras in the 84th minute of play forced Brasilino's goalkeeper Humberto Xavier to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 87th match minute, RIVER was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Anselmo Esdras to maneuver through the defense. After 89 played minutes Brasilino got a freekick which was hit by Hernani Branco. In the 94th minute Alvaro Hernando shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Humberto Xavier saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
