Guilherme Moraes was shown his second yellow card after 26 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 34th match minute, Papunhas EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Betinho Aparecido to maneuver through the defense. The referee ignored Papunhas EC's protests and gave Chico Mangueira a yellow card for diving instead. Tony Van Der Weghen was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but David Furtado showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-2 in the 67 minute of play. In the 70th minute, Nestor Rodrigues hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Chico Mangueira struck a weak shot in the 74th minute. Tony Van Der Weghen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Papunhas EC. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Egídio Ferraz couldn't finish the play. FC Bruges's Tony Van Der Weghen proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 87th minute of the match, managed to save FC Bruges from getting a goal against them. After 89 played minutes FC Bruges got a freekick which was hit by Benoit Elzen. Betinho Aparecido shot from long distance in the 90th minute, but Tony Van Der Weghen was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. Tony Van Der Weghen made an important save on a dangerous shot by Egídio Ferraz in the 92nd minute. The Papunhas EC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Papunhas EC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
