But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ingvar Bollström couldn't finish the play. Luís Corrêa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ingvar Bollström, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. 21 minutes into the match, Oscar Bäcklin notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Guararapes's Luís Corrêa. Luís Corrêa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 24th minute Reynaldo Fernandez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sonny Bergdal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ingvar Bollström in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Luís Corrêa saved Guararapes from getting behind. Guararapes's Luís Corrêa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oscar Bäcklin in the 33rd minute of play. After 34 played minutes Guararapes got a freekick which was hit by Murillo Ferreira. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sören Petersson in the 35th minute of play forced Guararapes's goalkeeper Luís Corrêa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A hard shot 36 in the game by Reynaldo Fernandez from a close distance when the talented Sonny Bergdal managed to make a qualified save. Oldham Athletic's players were relieved. With his leg Sonny Bergdal managed to avoid a goal in the 38thth minute, when Guararapes's Reynaldo Fernandez fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 39th minute of the match Tiago Gabriel Fernandez shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Sonny Bergdal showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. A collision led to Guararapes getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Silas Seco hit a great ball. Jan Gulliksson took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 43rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Luís Corrêa. Guararapes's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Guararapes's Luís Corrêa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ingvar Bollström in the 44th minute of play. Sonny Bergdal made a fantastic save in the 46th minute, when Nilton Secco sent off a good shot on target. After 47 played minutes Reynaldo Fernandez rounded Oldham Athletic's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 3-1. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

If Oscar Bäcklin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Guararapes's Luís Corrêa got control of the ball when Oscar Bäcklin tried to sneak it across the goal line. The supporters of Guararapes booed when Oldham Athletic was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leif Vedholm didn't get a good kick on the ball. Oldham Athletic's Oscar Bäcklin got a good chance for a goal in the 80th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 82nd minute, Ingvar Bollström left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Oldham Athletic fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 6-2. After some careless play in the Oldham Athletic defense, Jonathan de Azevedo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sonny Bergdal. The Oldham Athletic fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sonny Bergdal should have stopped the shot. Many of Oldham Athletic's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Oldham Athletic may have spent more time on the ball, but Guararapes were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
