The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 11th minute Miro Klose shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Silvino Morais saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Isidoro Conde tried in the 13th minute to hit away a contribution but miss-kicked the ball which ended up in his own goal and left an unhappy Silvino Morais a with quite unnecessary self made goal. Result 1-0. If Manuel Fernandes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 28th minute, Fjodor Odonkor got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Erich Pitten showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Manuel Fernandes, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Silvino Morais stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Miro Klose's shot from short distance in the 35th minute. Fjodor Odonkor might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Silvino Morais. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Fjodor Odonkor ran back to his position shaking his head. After some fancy dribbling in the 42nd minute, Filipe Quinaz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gremio Viana's supporters rose to their feet, but Filipe Quinaz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Erich Pitten breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 45 played minutes Gremio Viana got a freekick which was hit by Manuel Fernandes. In the 46th minute of the match, Miro Klose tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Silvino Morais saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Miro Klose's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Silvino Morais read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 64th minute of play. Gremio Viana's Serafim Sacadura got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Silvino Morais took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adam Dieler, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 82nd minute Miro Klose shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Silvino Morais saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When SSV Ulm 1846's Miro Klose, in the 84th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for SSV Ulm 1846.
