Sefa Tanaltay could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 3rd minute of the match, but Per-Olof Bengtsson made a huge save. In the 4th minute, Refik Kayıboylu ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Per-Olof Bengtsson was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. In the 7th minute Refik Kayıboylu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Per-Olof Bengtsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Per-Olof Bengtsson was out of position in the 8 minute of play, and Emin User capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Emin User really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. Per-Olof Bengtsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kuzey Süvarioğlu, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. After 18 minutes, Çelik Babayiğit mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Real Trabzon Sk and the VfL Wolfsburg players grew even worse after the yellow card. 23 minutes into the match, Sefa Tanaltay had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Per-Olof Bengtsson. VfL Wolfsburg's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Sefa Tanaltay was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. After 26 played minutes VfL Wolfsburg got a freekick which was hit by Sven-Erik Nyberg. Per-Olof Bengtsson had great luck who in the 28thth minute grab hold of the ball when Sefa Tanaltay from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. In the 29th minute, Refik Kayıboylu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Malcolm Morat kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. In the 35th match minute, VfL Wolfsburg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ove Söderström to maneuver through the defense. 39 minutes into the match, VfL Wolfsburg's goal looked a bit too open when Sefa Tanaltay came free, but Per-Olof Bengtsson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Karl-Johan Öberg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uğurcan Çakır having to interfere.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sefa Tanaltay to make the kick off. Björn Gunnarsson's late challenge caught a Real Trabzon Sk's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Björn Gunnarsson helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Real Trabzon Sk booed when VfL Wolfsburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Björn Gunnarsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Björn Gunnarsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uğurcan Çakır having to interfere. Berkem Keçili kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. In the 63rd match minute, Real Trabzon Sk was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Berkem Keçili to maneuver through the defense. VfL Wolfsburg's Malcolm Morat got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ove Söderström kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. Sefa Tanaltay recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Real Trabzon Sk's zone, Malcolm Morat stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Uğurcan Çakır came out of the goal and Malcolm Morat tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 84th match minute, VfL Wolfsburg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sven-Erik Dalman to maneuver through the defense. Uğurcan Çakır showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Björn Gunnarsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. If Kuzey Süvarioğlu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Real Trabzon Sk's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
