The coaching staff of S.C. Corinthians Paulista protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Luís Fabiano da Costa had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 23rd minute, Diego da Cunha got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jim Sutton showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Guga Goiano in the 26th minute of the match. S.C. Corinthians Paulista's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Guga Goiano in the 27th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Manchester City's goalie and right to Diego da Cunha. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Manchester City's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ricardinho Catarinense during the 30th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 30th match minute, S.C. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Diego da Cunha to make the kick off. Corinthians Paulista's Cássio Simões sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jim Sutton narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 78 minutes into the match, Manchester City's goal looked a bit too open when Guga Goiano came free, but Jim Sutton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 90th minute, Ricardinho Catarinense hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 93rd minute, Guga Goiano got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 96 minutes into the game, Eddie Doughty cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Júlio Jacinto was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.
