Douglas Trigo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 4th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When the match had gone on for 6 minutes, Fred Cruz put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Osvaldinho Marquez. Mayhem Sharks's Marcelo Alves proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 16th minute of the match, managed to save Mayhem Sharks from getting a goal against them. A collision led to Mayhem Sharks getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Douglas Trigo hit a great ball. Fred Cruz took the ball and in the 19 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Osvaldinho Marquez. Osvaldinho Marquez dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Fred Cruz hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Laerte Trigo hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Grêmio FBPA's Dário Paraibano slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Marcelo Alves. That made the score 1-2 after 33 minutes of play. The supporters of Grêmio FBPA booed when Mayhem Sharks was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ton Torres didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ton Torres's late challenge caught a Grêmio FBPA's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ton Torres helped the player get up and apologised. In the 42nd minute, Ton Torres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dário Paraibano stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Sidnei Monteiro's late challenge caught a Grêmio FBPA's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sidnei Monteiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Wilian Alves managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grêmio FBPA's supporters rose to their feet, but Wilian Alves was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcelo Alves breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Grêmio FBPA's Osvaldinho Marquez got control of the ball when Fred Cruz tried to sneak it across the goal line. 84 minutes into the game, Mayhem Sharks's Douglas Trigo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Osvaldinho Marquez made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. Marcelo Alves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dário Paraibano, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. 92 minutes into the match, Mayhem Sharks's goal looked a bit too open when Wilian Alves came free, but Marcelo Alves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
