Villaverde Celeste Clube's Alfredo Linares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thorben Rittmann in the 5th minute of play. Thorben Rittmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alfredo Linares having to interfere. After 10 played minutes Villaverde Celeste Clube got a freekick which was hit by Cesinha Dias. In the 11th minute, Kees Plappert got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 12th minute, Gabriel Michel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 13th play minutes Frank Sten shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Florian Guderian and just under the crossbar into goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alberto Valladares during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 19th minute, Alberto Valladares hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 24th match minute, Villaverde Celeste Clube was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Róbson Donato to maneuver through the defense. Florian Guderian made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Giuliano David in the 41st minute of play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Mané Garrincha to strike the kick off in the second half. Florian Guderian showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mané Garrincha in the 51st minute of the match. Florian Guderian was a little too slow when Mané Garrincha got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 53rd minute. The score was now 1-2. The supporters of Villaverde Celeste Clube booed when Sydney FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tizian Borutta didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mané Garrincha got free with Florian Guderian in the 62nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilton Berger in the 70th minute of play forced Sydney FC's goalkeeper Florian Guderian to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 73 minutes into the match, Sydney FC's goal looked a bit too open when Giuliano David came free, but Florian Guderian reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Adnan Tilner charged in rather forcefully in the 74th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Adnan Tilner the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Sydney FC getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. Adnan Tilner hit a great ball. In the 78th minute, Sydney FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Mané Garrincha fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. After a rather tough play, Villaverde Celeste Clube's Alberto Valladares got a free kick in the 87th minute. 90 minutes into the match, Villaverde Celeste Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Pierre Möhn came free, but Alfredo Linares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Florian Guderian made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luiz Netto in the 92nd minute. A collision led to Villaverde Celeste Clube getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Alberto Valladares hit a great ball. In the 95th minute of the match Thorben Rittmann sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Alfredo Linares skillfully saved the ball. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Villaverde Celeste Clube walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
