The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 7th minute Pornsak Seearamrungruang shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lourenço Velasques saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 8 minutes into the game, Renato Castro was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Lourenço Velasques made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Florian Diederich in the 10th minute of play. Fréderic Huerlimann hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. 12 minutes into the match, FC Lugano's goalkeeper Dieter Gärtner had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Éder Brites. Lourenço Velasques made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Odysseus De Souza in the 14th minute of play. In the 15th minute, Pornsak Seearamrungruang made a precise shot to the right of Lourenço Velasques. Ɍυƒυs™'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. In the 23rd minute, Florian Diederich ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Lourenço Velasques was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. In the 31st match minute, FC Lugano was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Florian Diederich to maneuver through the defense. Lourenço Velasques took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Odysseus De Souza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 37 minutes, Odysseus De Souza managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Lugano's supporters crossed their fingers, but Odysseus De Souza was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 38th minute, Renato Castro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lourenço Velasques showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pornsak Seearamrungruang in the 39th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Odysseus De Souza in the 40th minute of play forced Ɍυƒυs™'s goalkeeper Lourenço Velasques to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Pornsak Seearamrungruang scored 0-3 in the 43rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Lourenço Velasques, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gervásio Lages was the one to do the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in FC Lugano's zone, Gusmão Leiria stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dieter Gärtner came out of the goal and Gusmão Leiria tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 60 played minutes Pornsak Seearamrungruang rounded Ɍυƒυs™'s defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 0-4. FC Lugano made a substitution. Ulric Donsante replaced Odysseus De Souza. FC Lugano's Tito Waechter was substituted for Fidelio Haller. In the 65th minute, Gervásio Lages hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tito Waechter took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 65th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Lourenço Velasques. Ɍυƒυs™'s goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Noel Carmo hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. In the 71st match minute, Ɍυƒυs™ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Higino Viveiros to maneuver through the defense. In the 73rd minute of the match, Pornsak Seearamrungruang got a very nice opportunity to score, but Lourenço Velasques was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Ulric Donsante hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Renato Castro kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. Tito Waechter's late challenge caught a Ɍυƒυs™'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Tito Waechter helped the player get up and apologised. After 80 played minutes FC Lugano got a freekick which was hit by Tito Waechter. After 81 played minutes, Ɍυƒυs™'s Higino Viveiros shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Dieter Gärtner came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Ɍυƒυs™ reached it. A collision led to FC Lugano getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Fréderic Huerlimann hit a great ball. Lourenço Velasques showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ulric Donsante in the 86th minute of the match. In the 89th minute Pornsak Seearamrungruang shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lourenço Velasques saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pornsak Seearamrungruang sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Ɍυƒυs™ supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching FC Lugano's performance. The match ended with a win for FC Lugano.
