The supporters of SuRpRiSe booed when Clube Atlético Mineiro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. But to his dismay, Jan Szel quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. In the 37th minute, Clube Atlético Mineiro's Luís Alagoano seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Luís Alagoano the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Clube Atlético Mineiro protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Luís Alagoano had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 36 minutes into the game, one of Clube Atlético Mineiro:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jerzy Zacharek in the 43rd minute of play forced Clube Atlético Mineiro's goalkeeper José Maria Carvalho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jerzy Zacharek to make the kick off. In the 57th minute, Lamine Yambao left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. Dalmo Ramos charged in rather forcefully in the 73rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dalmo Ramos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Clube Atlético Mineiro's Dalmo Ramos got a free kick in the 73rd minute. Clube Atlético Mineiro's Ernani Mesquita was substituted for Romário Ronaldo. After 76 minutes of play, SuRpRiSe's Jerzy Zacharek made it 1-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. José Maria Carvalho was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Ulryk Smuskiewicz fell near the penalty area in the 78th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SuRpRiSe's protests and gave Ulryk Smuskiewicz a yellow card for diving instead. José Maria Carvalho stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jerzy Zacharek's shot from short distance in the 84th minute. With a little luck, Clube Atlético Mineiro's José Maria Carvalho got control of the ball when Jerzy Zacharek tried to sneak it across the goal line. José Maria Carvalho made a fantastic save in the 95th minute, when Jerzy Zacharek sent off a good shot on target. In the 95th match minute, Clube Atlético Mineiro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ramón Negri to maneuver through the defense.
