Melbourne 007's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rex Wenham was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Camillo Malatesta prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 22nd play minutes Rudy Gummow shot 3-0, a short shot which went by Camillo Malatesta and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 39th minute Rudy Gummow shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Camillo Malatesta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Melbourne 007 fully deserved thier win.
