In the 3rd minute of the match, Freddy Valentine tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Epifanio Guerrero saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. alvarado's Epifanio Guerrero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Freddy Valentine in the 4th minute of play. In the 6th minute of the match Yala got a corner. alvarado's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Raimundo Frans ran over to the corner to take the kick. Zeledon Curcio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from William Garsby in the 15th minute of play. 19 minutes into the game, alvarado's Esteban Đido nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Zeledon Curcio made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. With a little luck, alvarado's Epifanio Guerrero got control of the ball when Niki Bundev tried to sneak it across the goal line. Niki Bundev could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but Epifanio Guerrero made a huge save. Esteban Đido struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Zeledon Curcio didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for alvarado. Gabriel Veto kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. With a little luck, alvarado's Epifanio Guerrero got control of the ball when Niki Bundev tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 33rd minute, Santiago Feo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 35th minute William Garsby shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zeledon Curcio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, alvarado's Gabriel Veto got a free kick in the 37th minute. Yala's Freddy Valentine got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience held their breath when Raimundo Frans in the 43rd minute of the game managed to trick the opponents defenses and fired away a shot outside the goal on the Epifanio Guerrero's left hand side. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Esteban Đido was the one to do the kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Niki Bundev notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of alvarado's Epifanio Guerrero. Epifanio Guerrero was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Edwin Söderberg took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 55th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Epifanio Guerrero. alvarado's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Edwin Söderberg blasted a shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Epifanio Guerrero having to make a save. Yala's Freddy Valentine got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Epifanio Guerrero stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Niki Bundev's shot from short distance in the 69th minute. Niki Bundev blasted a shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Epifanio Guerrero having to make a save. Epifanio Guerrero made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Niki Bundev in the 70th minute of play. Epifanio Guerrero showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Jaunti, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. In the 75th minute William Garsby shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zeledon Curcio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Yala's Niki Bundev got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 79th minute, Alberto Jaunti ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Epifanio Guerrero was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. A collision led to Yala getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Generoso Pinto hit a great ball. alvarado made a substitution. Berk Tümerk replaced Teofilo Oskitz. The supporters of alvarado booed when Yala was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Generoso Pinto didn't get a good kick on the ball. Zeledon Curcio made a fantastic save in the 86th minute, when Berk Tümerk sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alberto Jaunti in the 91st minute of play forced alvarado's goalkeeper Epifanio Guerrero to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 92nd minute, Ulf Heyse left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The alvarado fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. For all the effort they put into the match, the alvarado players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Yala.
