The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Leonard Polek during the 9th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Cosimo Grilli could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 11th minute of the match, but Yuriy Babushkin made a huge save. Gil Ceni showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Teodosio Ascencio, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. In the 16th minute Domingo Jakue shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gil Ceni saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gil Ceni made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Teodosio Ascencio in the 17th minute of play. If Dante Iratze had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gil Ceni showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alvaro Perfecto in the 24th minute of the match. A collision led to Vestfjorden FK getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Leonard Polek hit a great ball. Gil Ceni didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rene Pierres went, in the 31st minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Vestfjorden FK's Gil Ceni played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rene Pierres in the 35th minute of play. Gil Ceni took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hector Jerardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 41st minute, Domingo Jakue left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Deportivo Messina fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. After 45 played minutes Vestfjorden FK got a freekick which was hit by Christian Salamonsen. Yuriy Babushkin made a fantastic save in the 47th minute, when Ousmane Diallo sent off a good shot on target. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Deportivo Messina's Luis Cordario was substituted for Rene Pierres. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Teodosio Ascencio stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 56th minute the ball was on its way in behind Deportivo Messina's goalkeeper Yuriy Babushkin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Cosimo Grilli scored 1-2 in the 59th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Yuriy Babushkin, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of Deportivo Messina booed when Vestfjorden FK was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bendik Breistein didn't get a good kick on the ball. 69 minutes into the game, Cosimo Grilli cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-2. Yuriy Babushkin was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Domingo Jakue could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 73rd minute of the match, but Gil Ceni made a huge save. Deportivo Messina's Venancio Esiquio got a good chance for a goal in the 74th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Yuriy Babushkin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cosimo Grilli in the 75th minute of play. If Cosimo Grilli had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vestfjorden FK's Ståle Stokkan was substituted for Ivan Klingáčik.
