When Ildefonso Fliz came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Meerkats FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ildefonso Fliz couldn't finish the play. In the 29th minute Ildefonso Fliz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Óscar Cordoba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ildefonso Fliz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Óscar Cordoba made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfred Coleiro in the 31st minute of play. In the 34th minute Alfred Coleiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 35th minute of the match Meerkats FC got a corner. Sporting de Gijón's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Shaun De Battista ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Meerkats FC's corner Shaun De Battista fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Óscar Cordoba quite easily take care of the ball. Óscar Cordoba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ildefonso Fliz, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 44th minute of the game. One of Sporting de Gijón:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Meerkats FC:s goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Aleksander Zapolski in the 47th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Óscar Cordoba prevented the ball from getting in the gole. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Matias Bilintx made a kick off. Oliver Ahlroth was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 51 minutes into the match. 50 minutes into the game, one of Meerkats FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Sporting de Gijón were awarded a corner in the 53th minute after Meerkats FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Saturnino Curcio took the corner. Óscar Cordoba made a fantastic save in the 55th minute, when Ildefonso Fliz sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Meerkats FC getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Alfred Coleiro hit a great ball. Sporting de Gijón's Venancio Emesto was substituted for Alejandro Rufo. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when Meerkats FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alfred Coleiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. Óscar Cordoba stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ildefonso Fliz's shot from short distance in the 64th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Diego Maradona in the 66th minute of play forced Meerkats FC's goalkeeper Pankracy Zawacki to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfred Coleiro in the 90th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ildefonso Fliz got free with Óscar Cordoba in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 94th minute, Venancio Emesto made a precise shot to the right of Pankracy Zawacki. Meerkats FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-2. 97 minutes in the game, Shaun De Battista fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Óscar Cordoba having to interfere. Meerkats FC's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Sporting de Gijón had won, even though Meerkats FC had held more of the ball.
