In the 3rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Saint Etienne FC's goalkeeper Claudio Normando, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 10 minutes into the match, Saint Etienne FC's goal looked a bit too open when Zico Zellier came free, but Claudio Normando reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 14 minutes, Vladimiro Oriche mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Saint Etienne FC and the GuateFortín players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Saint Etienne FC getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Vladimiro Oriche hit a great ball. Claudio Normando showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zico Zellier, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. Sven-Edvin Jansson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 16th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 19 minutes into the game, Aquiles Jeraldo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Saint Etienne FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave GuateFortín the free kick. The referee gave GuateFortín a penalty, 20 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Angel Alvarenga, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Saint Etienne FC's Claudio Normando. 0-1. GuateFortín's Sven-Edvin Jansson got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 27 minutes into the match, Sven-Edvin Jansson had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Claudio Normando. Saint Etienne FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Sven-Edvin Jansson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. 32 minutes into the match, Saint Etienne FC's goal looked a bit too open when Sven-Edvin Jansson came free, but Claudio Normando reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 33 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's goal looked a bit too open when Tolek Wojno came free, but Nery Pumpido reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 59th minute, Thierry Henry reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Claudio Normando. The goal made the score 0-5. GuateFortín made a substitution. William Villanueva replaced Zico Zellier. Ivan Lozano's late challenge caught a Saint Etienne FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ivan Lozano helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Saint Etienne FC booed when GuateFortín was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ivan Lozano didn't get a good kick on the ball.
