The supporters of Montevideo booed when Sipo EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Alberto Passos didn't get a good kick on the ball. The corner led Sipo EC's Noel Velloso to fire away a dangerous shot which Ronaldo Medeiros despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Sipo EC's Carroll Hathaway proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save Sipo EC from getting a goal against them. Ronaldo Medeiros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Oséias Gerber in the 25th minute of play. Carroll Hathaway showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bray McJon in the 26th minute of the match. Albert Hidegkúti scored 0-1 in the 27th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ronaldo Medeiros, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The referee felt a red card was in order, 30 minutes into the game, when Zeca de Alcântara put in a rough tackle. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 29th minute of the game. One of Montevideo:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Sipo EC:s goal. Fernandão Recifes short, quick shot in the 34thth minute got Carroll Hathaway to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The throw-in from Yan Netto in the 42nd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Montevideo's Olavo Matorin. 44 minutes into the match, Montevideo's goal looked a bit too open when Albert Hidegkúti came free, but Ronaldo Medeiros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

Ronaldo Medeiros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Albert Hidegkúti in the 51st minute of the match. Dráusio Costa kicked well hit freekick during the 56th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice moves Oséias Gerber could shoot a difficult shot in the 59th minute, which Ronaldo Medeiros however easily saved by the left post. After 60 minutes Montevideo's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Noel Velloso who took care of the corner kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Montevideo's goalie and right to Yan Netto. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Montevideo's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Elói Ferreira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Ronaldo Medeiros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
