The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Serafino Jurdan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jakob Alberg in the 5th minute of the match. Horacio Errapel's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Dobromir Keep firmly grabbed it by the left post. Serafino Jurdan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gorom Kanø in the 8th minute of play. 9 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's goal looked a bit too open when Relja Jurišić came free, but Serafino Jurdan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Newells Old Boys's Serafino Jurdan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jakob Alberg in the 11th minute of play. Horacio Errapel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Dobromir Keep tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Purple Shadows booed when Newells Old Boys was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Adan Chinto didn't get a good kick on the ball. Horacio Errapel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Dobromir Keep tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Horacio Errapel could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Dobromir Keep made a huge save. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Gorom Kanø made the kick off in the second half. Purple Shadows were furious when Fabian Penczkowski was red carded, 60 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. After 60 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Purple Shadows! In the 65thth minute of the game Silverio Tuste who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Purple Shadows's Dobromir Keep was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Serafino Jurdan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Aabel Ladva in the 70th minute. If Silverio Tuste had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Silverio Tuste in the 75th minute of play forced Purple Shadows's goalkeeper Dobromir Keep to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Horacio Errapel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dobromir Keep having to interfere. 80 minutes into the match, Purple Shadows's goal looked a bit too open when Silverio Tuste came free, but Dobromir Keep reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dobromir Keep took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Silverio Tuste, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 86 minutes into the game, Relja Jurišić recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Serafino Jurdan. Relja Jurišić showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. Dobromir Keep made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Silverio Tuste in the 91st minute of play. Purple Shadows's Dobromir Keep played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by André-Pierre Gignac in the 96th minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Purple Shadows players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
