An unexpectedly hard shot by Gernando Sarmento in the 8th minute of play forced River's goalkeeper Cosme Fernendo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eriberto Queirós took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nereo Argina, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cosme Fernendo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Geraldo Fernandez, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. 17 minutes into the game, Gernando Sarmento was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Engenheiros da Vila's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave River the free kick. Eriberto Queirós made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erik Lund in the 18th minute of play. After 20 minutes, Geraldo Fernandez made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. River's Cosme Fernendo tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Engenheiros da Vila's defense didn't have a chance, in the 32nd minute, when Nereo Argina scored to the left of an out of position Eriberto Queirós, making the score, 1-1. Gaetan Slaghmeulders took the ball and in the 43 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Eriberto Queirós. Eriberto Queirós dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Erik Lund was the one to do the kick off. Cosme Fernendo made a fantastic save in the 54th minute, when Gernando Sarmento sent off a good shot on target. With 56 minutes on the clock, Silvestre Laurgain commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 55th minute of the game. One of River:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Engenheiros da Vila:s goal. Cosme Fernendo had in the 57thth minute some difficulties stopping Gernando Sarmento's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 59th minute, Engenheiros da Vila's Sérgio Jacinto ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Cosme Fernendo. Cosme Fernendo yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-2. Eusébio Castro kicked well hit freekick during the 61st minute of the match. In the 62nd minute Gaetan Slaghmeulders shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eriberto Queirós saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. River's Cosme Fernendo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Geraldo Fernandez in the 85th minute of play. Cosme Fernendo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Geraldo Fernandez in the 87th minute. Erik Lund kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. Aurelio Txema charged in rather forcefully in the 93rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Aurelio Txema the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 93rd minute, Aurelio Txema hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 95th minute Christiano Ronaldo managed to get in a great position but fired away a sharp shot that went outside the goal on the goalie's right hand side. It could just as well have been a goal. After 96 played minutes Engenheiros da Vila got a freekick which was hit by Eusébio Castro.
